![]() There are security people on the island all night. Q:Will my things be safe in the tent? A:The tents are very sturdy and can be closed with a padlock. ![]() While my husband and I were there, there was a big conference dinner one night with a live band playing, who were great to listen to - an unexpected extra! Before we went we had a few questions, so here are some things that might be helpful to know, from our experience. ![]() It's such a unique place, and staying over brings its own delights. I've visited Cockatoo Island before on a day trip to enjoy the Biennale, now at last I've had a chance to stay there and "glamp "., camping without any of the hard work or discomfit. Places like this are an embarrassment to Sydney and should be closed down or handed over to new management. With the prospect of no alcohol, tennis courts and a bunch of wankers running the place, we packed up and left within 20 minutes, and highly encourage anyone thinking of staying here to go elsewhere. The island staff were incredibly rude, and with joy told us that the island bar closed down 2 years ago yet they're advertised as open on google for the day. The tennis courts were unavailable for our stay, the tents were too small to fit me (I'm 6ft 4) and covered in mould with an awful aged smell. Following a pat down, we proceeded to the cafe, we bought coffee and snacked on a banana as we waited for our chance to check in, which was followed by the island staff yelling at us for bringing our own food to the grass near the cafe, fair enough, but no tact or customer service considering we did buy coffee and the cafe was empty. Arriving to a bag search and accusations of smuggling alcohol (a surprise to find you cannot bring any alcohol to the island, although we didn't have any), my girlfriend and I were quite shocked by the rude welcome at the wharf.
